Botanical Dye Handloomed Scarf #5

$55.00

Beautiful hand-loomed open weave cotton scarves naturally dyed-by-hand to reveal gentle earthy botanical colours.

Pure cotton, light to wear, yet soft and snuggly, perfect for transitional autumn chill through to frosty winter days.

Locally dyed-by-hand with natural colour sourced from madder, a slow, multi-step process, each scarf is unique as no two dye pots are the same. Variegations in texture and tone are part of their natural, handmade charm.

Open weave with a subtle fringe, these scarves vary in size - approx 150-160cm long x 46cm wide.

Natural colours evolve over time, as all things in nature do. Exposure to sun hastens the process. Scarves can be refreshed with a plant-based dye bath.

Undyed scarves are fair trade handmade in Northern Thailand by the Ton Fai Collective, each step in the crafting process, from spooling to setting the weft and running the shuttle is done in the traditional Thai style passed down through generations of weaving culture.

CARE: Occasional hand-wash only, very gently, in cold water. Dry in shade.

I do my best to represent colours accurately, naturally dyed textiles reflect different tones and depths of colour in different lights. Please allow for variations with different screens and monitors.

About Ton Fai Collective

Ton Fai, Thai for cotton tree, expresses these weavers’ commitment to using only 100% locally grown cotton fibres in the production of all their textiles.

Though primarily fruit and rice farmers, the Ton Fai group has been weaving for fifteen years in between their harvest and planting seasons as a secondary source of sustainable income for their families. While many rural Thai people are forced to leave their families to seek work in larger cities, this local business allows the weavers to work on their own schedules alongside their neighbours in their own beautiful mountainside community.
