Botanical Dye Silk Ribbon Wide - Tribe Castlemaine

Botanical Dye Silk Ribbon Wide

$6.75

New to our ribbon range, wide rustic recycled silk sari ribbon botanically dyed-by-hand in gentle, earthy colours.

A lovely addition to any textile stash - explore the possibilities for weaving, crochet, jewellery making, textile art, gift wrapping, floral arrangements, home decor and fibre based craft projects.

Recycling silk wedding saris is a cottage industry run by women in villages around Bangalore, India, saving waste from landfill. Each length has it's own rustic character, with frayed edges, varying fabric textures, widths and depth of colour and irregular sewn joins throughout.

Locally the ribbon is botanically dyed-by-hand - a slow, multi-step process of preparing the fabric and gently extracting colours, with locally foraged plants and botanical extracts. Silks are named after the plant from which their colour is sourced.

This ribbon measures approx 7cm wide, it comes to you in its crinkled, un-ironed state. For a more refined look carefully iron on very low heat setting.

Created in very small batches, available in varying lengths presented on card bobbins.

Natural colours evolve over time, as all things in nature do. Exposure to sun hastens the process. Occasional gentle handwash only, dry in shade, some dye run-off possible.

I do my best to represent colours accurately, naturally dyed textiles reflect different tones and depths of colour in different lights. Please allow for variations which occur with different screens and monitors.

Handmade in Dja Dja Wurrung Country / Castlemaine by Tribe with silk ribbon fair trade sourced from India.
