Raffia
$12.00
Loved by basket-makers, weavers, florists, gardeners, designers and crafters - raffia has a multitude of uses.
Made from the dried and shredded leaves of the palmyra palm tree, high quality raffia harvested from renewable sources in Madagascar.
Our range of coloured raffia includes a number of sources:
Nutscene, commerically dyed in England. Superior grade, each 50 gram hank contains approximately 90 strands of one metre long lengths - a more uniform offering for discerning weavers with solid colouring.
Dyed by Hand, small batch, hand-dyed locally with non-toxic Australian-made dyes. A high quality (but not premium) raffia, approx 50-60gram hank, fibre length approx 80-120cm. A great all rounder, with a mix of thicker and thinner strands, will suit most basket weavers and fibre artists. The small-scale nature of dyeing-by-hand results in a more rustic, imperfect offering with variegated colour range.
Plant Dyed by Hand, small batch, hand-dyed locally using foraged plants and natural plant extracts. A high quality (but not premium) raffia, approx 50-60gram hank, fibre length approx 80-120cm. A great all rounder, with a mix of thicker and thinner strands, will suit most basket weavers and fibre artists. The nature of botanical dyeing-by-hand results in an imperfect, more rustic offering, with subdued, natural, variegated colour range.
Flax & Twine - bespoke fibres, 50g Madagascar raffia in un-dyed natural, black and indigo
Sold individually in approx 50gram hanks (unless otherwise stated), choose from a range of colours.
