Handwoven Hemp Fabrics : Autumn Colours
Gorgeous textural hemp fabric - handwoven and naturally dyed in a selection of earthy autumnal colours.
Harvested, woven and dyed by hand using traditional techniques and botanical dyes created from tree barks and roots by Hmong Hill Tribe villagers in rural Vietnam.
At least 1 foot wide, this limited selection of textiles make beautiful table runners and placemats. An inspiring addition to the craft stash, lovely for smaller slow stitch and sewing projects.
Price is for 1/2 metre, sold in 1/2 metre increments. If you order more than 1 x 50cm length it will be cut as one piece.
Fabric comes to you in a smooth, ironed state, a gentle handwash reveals its more textural nature. I have completed a swatch test wash of each colour, each fabric is pictured in both washed and unwashed state.
Sold by the 1/2 metre, choose from the following colours:
Chocolate measures approx 32cm wide, no dye run-off during washing
Gold measures approx 38cm wide, minimal dye run-off during washing
Burgundy measures approx 38cm wide, expect some dye run-off during washing
Salmon measures approx 35cm wide, this fabric comes to you washed and un-ironed, expect some dye run-off during washing
Hemp is grown by the Hmong tribeswomen, dried, then the fibre stripped from the stem and pounded, boiled, spun and coated with wax before being strung on an old wooden loom and woven into the finished fabric. All year around the tribeswomen can be seen with hemp fibres wound around their hands, using what spare time they have to connect the separate fibres to make one use-able thread.
CARE: gentle handwash in lukewarm water with a gentle soap, such as lanolin liquid soap, rinse and smooth wrinkles before drying naturally in the shade.
We do our best to represent our fabrics accurately but please allow for colour variations in monitors/screens.
