$115.00
Sewing set ofwooden Kokeshi doll needlecase with pincushion, a Mizuhiki threader and wooden thread spool - superior quality sewing tools from Cohana Japan, the perfect gift for your accomplished or aspiring seamstress.
Kokeshi dolls originated in mountainous north east Japan more than 150 years ago, simple wooden, cylindrical toys for children's play, handcrafted by the Kijishi.
Cohana’s Kokeshi doll, is from the Tsugaru kokeshi doll style. Crafted from mizuki wood (dogwood), hand painted with it’s simple innocent face and bobbed hair, the ink covered with a layer of wax.
The top of the needle case tube can be unscrewed, to reveal a woollen pincushion, holding three meboson needles, wool protects needles from rusting quickly. The needles from Meboso Hachirobei Shoten - home of quality needle makers in Japan - measure 36.4mm long and 0.71mm thick. With a magnet on the base of the doll, fallen needles can be easily picked up.
Lovely on display, the kokeshi doll is small enough to tuck in your craft case for travelling - measuring 9cm high and 3cm diameter.
The mizuhiki threader is decorated with a traditional braided knot, shaped like a plum blossom, a flower full of symbolism, bringing good luck, establishing close bonds and warding off evil. Mizuhiki is an ancient Japanese art form where decorations are made from rice paper cords. The wire threader is 4.2cm long and 2.8cm wide.
The wood-carved yarn reel with white polyester yarn completes the set.
The set comes packaged in a gift box measuring 10cm x 10cm x 6cm.
Please note: packaging is slightly dented, completely functional but not pristine, this is reflected in the reduced price on this one-only product.
