Mulberry Silk Carrier Rods

$2.00

Raw mulberry silk carrier rods, an interesting medium to inspire textile crafts, a lovely addition to natural history displays.

A by-product of the silk spinning industry, carrier rods are suitable for surface texture in wet felting, sewing applique, spinning, weaving and creating unique jewellery.

Sprinkling the rods with water and ironing flat activates the sericin bonding, creating a fibrous silk paper, which can be used as a base for painting, stitching and embellishing.

Coming in their raw, natural state, the silk responds well to dyeing.

Rods sold individually / each measure approx 10 - 15cm long & weighs approx 25-35grams

Each piece has a side split, is unique and may vary from those pictured.

Ethically sourced from India.
