Sisal Sun Earrings
Classic black woven sisal contrasting with hammered brass in these lovely handmade drop earrings.
Fair trade, supporting women artisans to provide a better way of life for their families and communities in rural Swaziland.
Using a fine coiling technique, jewellery is woven from sisal, a fibre made from the agave plant which originated in Mexico and was introduced to Africa for the fibre. Prior to weaving it must be stripped, cleaned and spun by hand, a very labour intensive task.
Hanging from nickel free brass French hooks, brass discs are 12mm diameter with a total hang of 33mm.
Since 1985 Tintsaba has run a rural development project in Swaziland working with women's groups making quality crafts. These women receive training to become master weavers, silversmiths and managers allowing them to lift their families out of poverty. Their products are recognised around the world for their outstanding quality.
