The pilwa (or pilhua) is a traditional bag of the Mapuche indigenous people of Chile. It is hand-woven from Chupón, a strong fibre growing on the island of Chiloé, in the traditional ways maintained by the Mapuche in Chile's Araucanía Region.
Bag measures 32cm wide by 30cm high, handles measure 62cm long.
Sourced from Cordillerana, a fair trade store helping women living in poverty by integrating them into the economic and socio-cultural development of the country, promoting and spreading the production of traditional Chilean crafts.
